Many lessons can be learned from the concurrent pandemics of HIV and COVID-19. While a safe and effective HIV vaccine remains a key scientific challenge, advances in HIV vaccinology have paved the way for the development of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. Similarly, SARS-CoV-2 vaccine clinical trials draw lessons and expertise from the HIV experience and clinical trial networks.
